Myanmar Junta, Rebels Trade Blame for Damage of Iconic Bridge
Myanmar’s military government and a rebel group it’s fighting traded blame Monday for damage to an iconic colonial-era train bridge that connects the northern Shan state to the the second biggest city of Mandalay.
Major General Zaw Min Tun, chief spokesman of the National Defense and Security Council, said the group damaged the structure with mines. The group, Ta’ang National Liberation Army, accused the government of accidentally causing the damage with an attack drone that was targeting its base, according to AFP.
