Lithuania’s ruling party nominated Inga Ruginiene, a former trade union leader, to become the next prime minister after the collapse of the previous coalition government.

Ruginiene is a political newcomer who joined the Social Democrats just eight months ago as a social affairs minister. She was nominated by her party on Wednesday, setting her up to succeed Gintautas Paluckas, whose cabinet resigned following a business scandal.
