Japan’s Mitsubishi Heavy Industries was selected to build a new class of naval frigate for Australia, Nikkei newspaper reported, beating out European rival Thyssenkrupp Marine Systems.

A senior Australian government official notified the Japanese government of its plans after a National Security Committee meeting on Monday, the news outlet reported. Up to $10 billion would be invested in the project over the next decade, the government said in November.
