Poland’s Tusk Heads Into Confidence Vote as Coalition Squabbles
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk is poised for a vote of confidence next week to shore up support for his government after the defeat of a political ally in Sunday’s presidential election stoked tension in the ruling coalition.
Lawmakers will vote on the motion on June 11, the premier said Tuesday, in what he said will be “a new beginning” for his 19-month-old cabinet. The ruling coalition has descended into squabbling in the wake of the electoral setback, with Tusk’s partners blaming him for the failure to deliver on a number of promises. The three-way alliance is still expected to survive the vote.
