Rheinmetall in Talks With Latvia on Manufacturing Arms Locally

The Latvian government is in talks with German weapons manufacturer Rheinmetall AG on producing defense equipment domestically as part of an effort by Baltic nations to bolster their military capabilities in the face of Russian aggression.

Talks with senior officials in Riga are in a preliminary stage, with no guarantee of success, people familiar with the discussions said on condition of anonymity as negotiations take place behind closed doors. A Rheinmetall spokesperson confirmed the discussions, but declined to comment further, saying they were at an early stage.
