Barclays CEO Expects Dollar to Remain World’s Reserve Currency

Photographer: Hollie Adams/BloombergThe US dollar will “absolutely” remain the world’s only reserve currency, Barclays Plc Chief Executive Officer C.S. Venkatakrishnan said, even amid economic upheaval created by the Trump administration’s tariff policies.
“It’s 100 years of dollar strength, so much so that important commodities — gold, oil — are denominated in dollars,” Venkatakrishnan said in an interview with David Rubenstein at the 2025 Sell-Side Leaders Forum. “I think undoing that will take a long, long time.”
