Latvia Confirms Kazaks Will Return as Central-Bank Governor
Latvia approved the return of Martins Kazaks as central-bank governor for another five-year term, ending months of political infighting that saw him leave office without a successor at the end of 2024.
The Baltic country’s 100-member parliament voted 67-18 on Thursday to confirm Kazaks, after he was backed by two opposition parties and — later — by two of the ruling coalition’s three members. The decision will see Kazaks re-assume his seat on the European Central Bank’s interest rate-setting Governing Council.
